Diagnostics

The doctor examines the patient in detail during the diagnostic phase. To make a treatment plan, the following examinations are required:

  • Panoramic radiograph, TRG in lateral and forward projection
  • Diagnostic plaster models of jaws (impressions of teeth are taken and diagnostic models are made on their basis).
  • Photoprotocol (photos of the patient in front, profile, 45° angle, intraoral photos, if necessary – full-length, to assess posture).
  • Diagnosis of TMJ (temporomandibular joint)

Preparing to install braces

Types of braces and their fixation

Braces can be metal or aesthetic (plastic, sapphire, ceramic). Minor dental deformities can be corrected with a series of mouth guards. Braces are fixed in the orthodontist’s chair. The braces are fixed directly or indirectly to the outer surface of the teeth with a special material.

Orthodontics in childhood

Until recently, an orthodontist had to wait until a child was 10-12 years old to align their bite with braces. However, with the help of the British technique (orthotropia) it is possible to start treatment of teeth alignment without braces and tooth extraction already from the age of 5. Special apparatuses – Bioblock (Mew apparatus) – control the direction and intensity of jaw growth and create space for permanent teeth. The result of treatment is straight teeth, correct and harmonious facial features, natural configuration of lips, cheeks, chin, beautiful and wide smile.

I came to Clovadent with this problem. Eight years ago, after a boxing injury, I started to have a "crunching" (popping) of the joint on my right side when opening my mouth wide. This has been getting worse over time. I was told by other doctors that if there is soft tissue damage, there is no fixing it. If anything, the joints don't regenerate, nothing can be done.
